Are you your garden’s keeper?
Finding time to garden can be difficult. We are always busy with this, that, and the other. The Fall garden needs care. The leaves are falling and will soon be choking up the plants beneath. There are plenty of gardening chores this time of year. when the shadows start getting longer. However the body senses the change of seasons and a healing heart stalls in its journey and the garden reflects the stall. The truth is that the garden is our keeper and not vice versa as we tend to believe. The fresh air, the feel of the roots of a pesky weed giving way, the raking of leaves into a nice orderly pile and the satisfaction of starting to lay your garden to rest for the season. The solitude of being alone with your thoughts and emotions while you trim back the Black-eyed Susans makes it clear; you are not your garden’s keeper but your garden keeps you.
